Katie Award Update
The Katie Awards for 2007 are presently on hold as the Press Club of Dallas reorganizes. It is anticipated that the Katie Awards will resume in early 2008. Any official announcement will be posted at www.KatieAwards.com and at www.PressClubDallas.com.
Our Pledge
When the Katie Awards resume you will see complete transparency in the judging process. You will know what prestigious organizations are judging each section of the contest. Winners will receive comments from the judges. We also hope to have judges at the awards banquet.
Integrity
As part of our commitment to integrity, the following actions have been taken to ensure proper oversight of future Katie Awards:
- An independent panel of honored journalists has already agreed to oversee Katie Awards judging for the Press Club. The panel includes:
- John Miller, TCU professor and former-Ch. 8 news director
- Darwin Payne, former-SMU journalism professor
- Tony Pederson, chair of the SMU School of Journalism
- Cheryl Hall, of The Dallas Morning News, and Gloria Campos, of WFAA-TV Ch. 8 will also monitor judging for the Foundation. Both are Foundation members who have agreed not to enter the competition.
- Judges will also be listed on the Katie Awards program.
Scholarships
The primary purpose of the Katie Awards is to recognize journalism and communications excellence while also generating funds for scholarships. Since 1984, the Press Club of Dallas Foundation has awarded more than $350,000 in scholarships to journalism and communications students with Texas ties. Your support of the Katie Awards makes that possible. Your involvement has changed lives, especially for students who are the first in their family to attend college.
We hope you agree with these actions and we welcome any suggestions you may have. The Katie Awards have a long, prestigious history in the Southwest and we are working hard to earn your trust. Thank you for your patience and continued support.
